There was an old saying within the NYPD: “empty garbage cans make the most noise.” (NYPD seemed to have a saying for everything). Right now, the Democratic Party seems to be doing all it can to live up to that saying.
Let’s start with Newark. We’ve all heard the story by now, but if you haven’t — here’s the primer:
Now comes word of several other attempts by local politicians to impede the lawful —yes, lawful — operations of ICE. Operations which, incidentally, the country overwhelmingly voted for.
Via Boston25 News:
WORCESTER — Worcester’s police union is calling for city officials to conduct an ethics investigation into City Councilor Etel Haxhiaj, accusing the local councilor of using her elected position to incite aggression towards police officers.
Two people, a juvenile and a Worcester School Committee candidate, were arrested on Thursday after chaos erupted and police officers were assaulted on Eureka Terrace in Worcester when federal agents detained a Brazilian woman.
According to the reporting, this City Councilor “participated in the conduct of the unruly crowd and eventually assaulted both Worcester police and federal law enforcement officers on scene.”
Now, lest there be any confusion about where this Etel Haxhiaj stands politically, here’s part of her mission statement during her election campaign:
I believe the hiring of a Chief Diversity Officer and having the results of the Racial Equity Audit will support the Manager’s efforts to implement equitable practices and a culture of transparency across departments…. It should be the City Councilors’ role to hold the manager accountable for addressing these cultural and institutional practices.
Hmm. A “Racial Equity Audit”? I’m sure that was highly scientific. Notice the word, “equity” — the left’s usefully vague catchall for pretty much any grievance campaign.
And guess who characters like Ms. Haxhiaj just LOVE to accuse of these malevolent “institutional practices”? Maybe those terrible, horrible, really awful police people?
Councilor Haxhiaj made her position pretty clear in a presser following the event, during which she stated, “The message for ICE is: Get out of our city.”
How about this message, Councilor? “ICE has federal authority; it supersedes your penny-ante local position; if you interfere you’re under arrest.”
That message apparently didn’t get to Ashley Spring, a Worcester School Committee candidate, who as per the reporting is accused of “pushing multiple officers at the scene and throwing an unknown liquid substance on the officers.” She faces multiple state charges.
But what these lovely ladies should be facing is federal charges. Because this lunacy has to stop. These self-important local officials have no authority to impede ICE operations on the street, creating dangerous conditions that result in the local police having to intervene.
And this is happening all over the country. What exactly is the aspiration of the progressive wing of today’s Democrat party? Right now, it feels like this:
Good luck with that message in the midterms, ladies.
And Speaking Of Feds And Locals…
… we just happened to have argued this exact issue over at this week’s pod.
What — exactly — can the Trump administration do to overcome the lunacy of sanctuary cities, and politicians who side against their own constituents? Where is all this going?
We think we see the plan, actually. Hint: It starts in Wisconsin….

We Never Had It So Easy
Making a gun arrest in New York City has always been a big deal—one that earns respect from fellow cops and praise from higher-ups. Taking a gun off the street feels like real impact.
And these days, it’s gotten easier. Despite losing some tools of the trade, there are more guns around, and opportunities for gun collars remain.
Gun arrests often take work—intelligence, instincts, timing. Some cops just have a sixth sense for it.
But not always. Two Brooklyn transit cops had a gun arrest fall into their laps recently thanks to 39-year-old Stanley Spencer. A career criminal with 14 sealed arrests—courtesy of the Brooklyn criminal justice system—Spencer dropped his gun right in front of them, then tumbled down a flight of stairs.
After a short chase, they caught him and found the gun under a car.
Even from retirement, I’m jealous—it was a lucky break. But credit where it’s due: the cops reacted fast and nailed the arrest.
Now comes the real fight. The Brooklyn DA’s office might turn this into Spencer’s 15th sealed case. Expect questions like: “Did you see the gun fall? Why did you chase him? Was he injured?”
Don’t believe us? Ask yourself: Fourteen sealed arrests? Fourteen? All sealed?
Why?
So you see what these cops are up against. Let’s hope this one sticks. Because eventually, people with guns eventually shoot them.
Leave Letitia James Alone
Yes, you read that right: Leave Letitia James alone—at home.
This week, Trump supporters reportedly protested outside the New York AG’s home and even her church. She blames Trump for inciting it—another baseless claim.
That’s not to say she doesn’t deserve scrutiny. Her relentless targeting of Trump is a misuse of justice. And the evidence against her—uncovered by Sam Antar—suggests she falsified mortgage documents. The DOJ should investigate and prosecute if warranted.
But protests should stay public. Showing up at someone’s home is wrong. Protest outside her office or at public events.
We condemned protests at Supreme Court Justices’ homes—which violated federal law—and one deranged man even plotted to kill Justice Kavanaugh. We’ve also seen protests outside cops’ homes after controversial shootings.
A person’s home should be off-limits. It’s a place of refuge. Their families didn’t sign up for politics.
So yes—protest, speak out, make your voice heard. But keep it public. Showing up at someone’s house accomplishes nothing—and risks real danger.
That is, of course, assuming people really did show up where James says they did — another assumption we just can’t make. Especially considering the source.
An American Pope
The nation was shocked—in a good way—by the election of Cardinal Robert Prevost to the Papacy.
The new Bishop of Rome, Pope Leo XIV, hails from Chicago, is a White Sox fan, attended Villanova, taught high school physics, worked across the Midwest, and spent a decade in Peru. His background is as American as apple pie; he is part Italian, French, Spanish, and Creole. He’s spoken against corruption, denounced political violence, and served others. He embodies the American spirit.
Like all of us, he’s not perfect. No doubt anti-religious voices are already digging for dirt, eager to uncover past sins. We hope they don’t find much.
He speaks for the people, criticizing governments—including this one—and that’s healthy. Every government should hear from its citizens. Criticism is a right, not a threat.
Upon his elevation, he declared: “God loves us. God loves everyone. Evil will not prevail. We are all in the hands of God. Therefore, without fear, united hand in hand with God, and amongst ourselves, let us go forward.”
Whether religious or not, this message matters in our divided nation. “United hand in hand… let us go forward.” That is the path forward for America.
We can improve and prosper as a united people. Criticize, yes—but don’t hate. Our leaders too often model the opposite. Hatred breeds more hatred, and that threatens this American experiment.
We are one people—under God if you believe, but certainly under one flag. We can disagree without animosity. It’s time to turn down the temperature.
Let us take pride in our American Pope. And more importantly, take his words to heart: Put hatred aside. Move forward together.
Bullets
Some “Gift”: Um, Mr. President: Please sweep this generous offering for bugs — and we don’t mean bedbugs…. (And maybe this would be a better present if it had the Hamas leadership in it?) (And is it me, or does the interior look like a Florida condo from 1975?).
Most-Embarrassing-Crime-of-the-Week: Hey Alvin Bragg: Will you actually prosecute THIS perp if he’s caught? And by the way, how many investigations have now been compromised?
What Could Go Wrong? An entire city built near the border, and governed by sharia law? Nothing like a little theocracy to take us backwards….
Will We Ever Know? With the Joe Biden “comeback tour” underway, and watching him in action, we reiterate the political question of our time: Who ran America those four years?
And finally….
Our favorite story to ignore these days….
