What does it take to get fired?
It appears that there is a bet going on in the soon-to-be-defunct Biden Administration. The Cabinet and other significant public servants must have a pool going. Cheatle? Mayorkis? Blinken? Who can get fired first?
The Biden Administration has been a sinking ship for a good while now. For most of them, getting canned wouldn’t be a bad thing. Take the summer off. Get a stable job at MSNBC or Yale. The possibilities are endless. The Biden Cabinet appears to be a scene from the 90’s comedy flick “Office Space”.
Our money is on Cheatle, if anyone gets the boot. But judging from Biden’s sense of accountability, it is likely that no one gets fired. Biden seems incapable of holding anyone accountable for their performance. Even notorious luggage thief and all-around weird person, Sam Brinton didn’t appear to get terminated. The Deputy Assistant Secretary for Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition in the Office of Nuclear Energy is simply “no longer employed.”
Other than a few Trump holdovers in the early days of the administration we could only find two instances where executive branch agency heads or significant position-holders were fired. In April, Martin Dickman, Inspector General of the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board was terminated on the grounds of creating a hostile work environment (maybe the only cardinal sin for Biden world). In February of 2023, Architect of the Capitol Brett Blanton was fired for misappropriating funds and not showing up to work. (Which come to think of it, could apply to Biden as well).
That’s all we could find. Perhaps there are more out there. Maybe someone slipped our attention. But Blinken’s failed negotiations leading to multiple wars and an eventual Iranian nuclear bomb couldn’t get him fired. General Milley’s deadly Afghan withdrawal was ignored. Mayorkas’ multiple lies and open border didn’t do the trick. Cheatle’s incompetence and obfuscation at the helm of the Secret Service was met with silence.
Given our choice, we would go with Mayorkas. He has lied to both the American people and to Congress. The open border is just a disaster that is creating a cascade effect of problems around the country, including for the electoral chances of Democratic Party candidates (which may be the other cardinal sin for this administration). It was also recently discovered that he personally denied RFK Jr. a Secret Service detail. He did so with no explanation.
Also keep in mind that Mayorkas is Cheatle’s immediate supervisor. She is obviously in over her head, and Mayorkas seemed to do nothing to support her. In an interview yesterday on State of the Nation, House Speaker Johnson reported that he spoke to Mayorkas after the Trump assassination attempt. Mayorkas could not answer whether or not the Secret Service had a drone up in the air on that day.
That may not seem like the end of the world, but from a police executive standpoint, that is unconscionable. Mayorkas should have had a briefing within minutes of the event with that information. Within hours he should have had the full picture of what happened that day. For him not to know basic information means he is simply not doing his job. He should be gone.
But at the end of the day, Biden fired only one person – himself. It’s about time.
UPDATE 7/22/24 1235
A reader pointed out another person who was fired by the Biden Administration. Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott - a Trump holdover - was fired from his position in August of 2021. This guy really crossed the line. He refused to stop using the term “illegal alien” for the more polite “migrant”. There is only so much that can be tolerated. He obviously had to go.
His boss - none other than Alejandro Mayorkas.
I have a new admiration for Congressmen Nancy Grace and Pat Fallon.
Just imagine if the candidate making a speech and shot was dark-skinned,,,,
