An Historic Possibility For President Trump

Will he have his own "stand in the schoolhouse door" moment?

So are Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Brandon Johnson, Michelle Wu, et al, all bluffing? Will these powerful elected officials actually seek to “fight” the incoming Trump administration’s efforts to apprehend and deport migrant criminals?

Will Denver Mayor Mike Johnston really seek a “Tiananmen Square moment” by deploying civilians and Denver police around his city’s perimeter? All to protect those the Trump administration has stated it will target first for deportation – namely, the rapists, murderers, human traffickers, and gang-bangers American taxpayers are currently supporting?

Don’t put it past them. And if they do, a moment in history firmly lodged in America’s civil rights pantheon suggests how President Trump should respond: the 1963 “Stand In The Schoolhouse Door” showdown that occurred when President John F. Kennedy forced Alabama Governor George Wallace to accept school desegregation.

The principles involved are strikingly similar. The Supreme Court's 1954 decision in Brown v. Board of Education, which declared racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional, sparked intense resistance in Southern states. This led, on June 11, 1963, to Wallace physically blocking the entrance to the University of Alabama so as to prevent two African American students from enrolling. Wallace's defiance was a direct challenge to federal desegregation efforts, an order from an Alabama federal court, and the authority of the Supreme Court.

In response, President Kennedy issued Executive Order 1111, federalizing the Alabama National Guard. The President then sent Guard troops to enforce the court order, allowing the students to register and marking a significant victory for the Civil Rights Movement and federal intervention.

If it comes to it, the Trump administration could – and should – do the same. After giving fair warning that no obstruction of federal officers enforcing settled federal law will be tolerated, President Trump could issue an Executive Order activating and federalizing the National Guard in any state where necessary. The state Guard commanding officer would then be empowered to enforce federal law and take into custody any state or local official seeking to actively obstruct lawful federal operations.

Granted, the Trump administration will have other leverage against “sanctuary” jurisdictions that seek to impede federal law enforcement from its initial effort to round up the reported 1.4 million illegals already under expulsion orders, as well as the reported 425,000 already convicted of crimes. Federal money to these jurisdictions could be cut off. Task forces could also be formed around the country that federalize local cops, empowering them to assist ICE’s investigation, location, and deportation efforts.

But the “Stand In The Schoolhouse Door” approach does several things for Trump. First, it tracks to a revered moment in American civil rights history (with the unlikely atmospheric of both JFK and Donald Trump having a Robert Kennedy in their administrations). At the same time, such an approach allows for America’s military to assist deportation operations – a tactic the incoming administration has famously invoked.

Additionally, if done with the right priorities, it would highlight that the administration is focusing on dangerous illegal migrants – and that those seeking to “fight” these deportation efforts are choosing to align themselves with some of the nation’s worst predators. Which makes these grandstanders criminal co-conspirators themselves, harboring killers, rapists, and child-traffickers.

While such a scenario may appear unlikely, thanks to the malfeasance of Joe Biden, his “border tsar” Kamala Harris, and DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, we are in truly uncharted territory. At least eight million unvetted migrants have entered America over the last four years, many of them members of organized criminal groups. As of this writing, they continue to arrive. With the last election, Americans clearly signaled that they have had enough.

Yet at the same time the nation remains deeply polarized, and progressive champions nationwide have responded to the election results by doubling down on “sanctuary” policies. The cynical, performative race to be the first political martyr to Trump and Homan’s deportation plan is on. Another “Stand In The Schoolhouse Door” moment may indeed be in the offing.

If so, President Trump should consider taking a page from the annals of liberal icon JFK. Would it not feel like justice for a champion of migrant criminals like Denver Mayor Mike Johnston to be federally incarcerated alongside those he has sided with? Against the interests of his own constituents?

Were it to come to that, it would be interesting to see how long Mayor Johnston continues to champion the cause of Tren de Aragua, MS-13, and the Sinaloan cartel when one of their members is his cellmate.

The Most Unsurprising Pardon Ever

As we wrote in this space back in January (and even before):

Either way, let's be clear: Hunter will never say anything meaningful before Congress, he’ll never go to jail, he has been vastly undercharged, and he will be offered a cheap plea deal soon. At worst, Dad will pardon him -- likely after November 5th.

What can be said, other than: (a) We shouldn’t hear another peep from any liberal pundit regarding the lawfare cases against Donald Trump; and (b) Thank God November 5th went the way it did.

All the criminal cases against Donald Trump should be immediately dropped — as should the idiotic Letitia James civil case here in New York.

Further, as we all brace for the weepy reports from the networks regarding “a father pardoning his son” and how it’s all a “shakespearean tragedy,” recall that the real concern for the Bidens here was not that Hunter would go to jail, but that he would flip. There was no way Hunter was going to tolerate jail.

As we’ve covered here before, he is a brat who harbors all sorts of family resentments. He was capable of anything.

Uncle James is sleeping better tonight, as are various business associates. As for Dad, I don’t think sleeping has been an issue for awhile now.
